Daily Update (3/07/25) - New Customers, and a little rebalancing


Daily Update - March 7th, 2025

Woo, made it through another week. Today, I did a little bit of a re-balance on the new word of mouth/influence system, and reworked the starting customer pool a little bit. Now, you'll start with 1 of each basic customer that likes one item type, and dislikes one item type, and 2 copies of a new customer that randomizes their preferences. This should give some variety to the early game, and maybe point your build in some direction to start with. I also took some time to add a few new customer types, which I'll detail in the changelog below. I'm pretty happy with the new system, so keep an eye out for new customers that use this system soon! Here's the changelog for the day:

  • New Content: Added a new Customer - Town Crier (4 Patience, 10 Influence, dislikes all item types, gains a random preference level per 4 word of mouth on their 1st turn - Rare)
  • New Content: Added a new Customer - Boisterous Bard (3 Patience, 6 Influence, prefers weapons/food, dislikes armor/potions, forces you to rummage your hand if you sell them something they like - Uncommon)
  • New Content: Added a new Customer - Local Villager. (3 Patience, 2 Influence, no preferences, picks a random liked/disliked preference after their first turn - Common)
  • New Content: Added a new Customer - Stubborn Mason. (2 Patience, 2 Influence, likes armor, dislikes potions, sells a dagger, will leave if you rummage - Common)
  • Gameplay: Minor nerf to Friendly Chat tactic: (Now Exhausts when played)
  • Gameplay: Reworked starting customer pool. Now contains 1x Peasant, 1x Quartermaster, 1x Alchemist, 1x Mason, 2x Villager
  • Gameplay: Updated Quartermaster customer a bit. Word of Mouth cost reduced from 5 to 3. Changed item for sale to Bread. Reduced rarity from Uncommon to Common. Reduced Influence to 2 (was 3)
  • Gameplay: Updated Alchemist Item for sale to Light Armor (was Potion)
  • Gameplay: Reduced Barbarian Word of Mouth Cost (5 -> 3)
  • Gameplay: Reduced Blacksmith Influence and Word of Mouth cost (5 ->3, and 10 -> 7 respectively)
  • Gameplay: Buffed Donate customer complication patience cost. (0 -> 1). Always felt weird that it was free in playtesting. This is a buff to the difficulty of dealing with the Cleric customer.
  • Gameplay: Increased Cleric customer rarity (Common -> Uncommon)
  • Gameplay: Updated Enchanter's Item for sale (Cookpot Shield -> Armor Potion). This should provide a minor clue as to what they prefer, and give items for sale a bit more diversity
  • Gameplay: Increased Enchanter's Influence and Word of Mouth Cost (2 -> 4, and 3 -> 5 respectively)
  • Gameplay: Increased Old Man Influence (1 -> 2)
  • Gameplay: Reduced Old Man Word of Mouth cost (5 -> 3)
  • Art: Added art for the Dumpster Dive tactic
  • Art: Added art for the Extra Offence tactic
  • Art: Added art for the Side Salad tactic
  • Bugfix: Fixed typo in Turtle barter intent
  • Bugfix: Fixed missing startup data for Baker and Potion Dealer characters
  • Bugfix: Fixed Blacksmith's Seal decoration having no buy/sell cost
  • Bugfix: Fixed potential text overrun for some long tactic names
  • Bugfix: Fixed only customers being clickable in the Compendium
